Utility spaces are often built for function alone. Château de LuVi & Hennessy Run was designed to feel finished, intentional, and thoughtfully made.
Nestled in Prosser’s wine country, Château de LuVi & Hennessy Run was imagined not just as a coop, but as a reflection of timeless design and care.
Built from reclaimed wood, limewashed by hand, and finished with French inspired detailing, the space celebrates intentional craftsmanship and proves that beauty belongs in every corner of life, even the smallest structures.
“The Story behind the build”
Château de LuVi
Set within the warmth of Prosser, Washington, this custom chicken coop was envisioned not simply as a shelter, but as a luxury farmhouse retreat. A space designed to reflect care, craftsmanship, and the quiet beauty of rural living.
The name, Château de LuVi, was chosen as a tribute to our mothers, their initials woven together as a reflection of the values that guide this work. The word “Château,” French for “castle” or “country estate,” speaks to the spirit of the build. A place of care, character, and lasting presence, where beauty and function live in harmony.
Inspired by a deep appreciation for timeless design and a personal connection to France, this project honors the idea that even the most practical spaces can carry meaning, warmth, and legacy.

The adjoining chicken run was named Hennessy Run, a playful nod to an appreciation for fine cognac and the slow, warm evenings shared with friends. Like Château de LuVi, the name reflects French influence, creativity, and the joy of crafting something meaningful, even for the smallest of residents.
Designed as a natural extension of the coop, Hennessy Run balances comfort and function with the same level of care and intention. Together, the coop and run create a complete environment. One that supports daily life while still feeling calm, cohesive, and thoughtfully made.

Inside the Craft
This build was designed to feel intentional and lived in from the start. Nearly 80 percent of the structure was crafted from reclaimed wood, paired with vintage windows and doors that bring a sense of history and soul. Hand selected architectural details give the space the character of a countryside guest house rather than a typical barnyard structure.
Inside, the craftsmanship continues. The interior drywall walls and ceiling were limewashed entirely by hand using Color Atelier mineral primer and layered lime paints in Chèvre 150% Darker, Chèvre 100% Standard, Wabi 150% Darker, and Bone 150% Darker. The finish was sealed with a matte clear coat for durability.
The result is a soft, organic patina that adds warmth and calm to the space. A reminder that even the most functional structures can feel refined, thoughtful, and quietly timeless.

To support the finished space, each material and product was chosen for comfort, durability, and a cohesive, timeless feel.
Sherwin Williams Paints
A 100 and Duration exterior paints were selected for durability, weather resistance, and long lasting protection in an outdoor setting.
Insulated Walls
R-15 faced fiberglass insulation helps keep the coop comfortable through Eastern Washington’s changing seasons.
Flooret Nakan Flooring
Signature line luxury vinyl plank flooring with extra large planks was chosen for its clean, modern look and fully waterproof durability, making it easy to maintain.
Wine-Bottle Chandelier
A wine bottle chandelier, gifted by close friends years ago, adds a warm glow and a personal touch that reflects Prosser’s wine country heritage and the joy of shared gatherings.
Roosting Bars
Wide 2x4 roosting bars were installed along the windows to maximize space and comfort. Using the flat side allows chickens to balance naturally, protects their feet, and helps keep them warm. A simple, thoughtful choice that supports health, comfort, and everyday use.
Nesting Boxes
A built in custom nesting box, lined with hemp fiber nesting pads from Grubbly Farms, sits beneath the French windows. It balances charm and function while allowing for easy egg retrieval and maintaining the structure’s symmetry.
Grubbly Farms Bedding & Coop Conditioner
Eco friendly, dust free hemp bedding and coop conditioner help maintain a clean, healthy, and pest free environment for the hens.
Farmlite Automatic Chicken Door
A Farmlite automatic chicken door helps keep the flock safe and secure while supporting daily routines.
RentACoop Chicken Treat Dispenser
A RentACoop two-tube treat dispenser provides simple enrichment and keeps the flock engaged. The design encourages natural pecking behavior, helping reduce boredom, stress, and flock tension.
Coop Scoop
The Coop Scoop makes cleanup quick and efficient. Its wide, slotted design allows clean bedding to fall through while removing waste, helping keep the run fresh and comfortable. A simple tool that supports consistent care and makes maintaining a clean space easier day to day.
Chicken Hygene
Good chicken hygiene supports the health of the flock and the space they live in. We use First Saturday Lime inside the chicken run and around the exterior of the coop to help keep outdoor areas clean, dry, and comfortable.
It helps reduce odors, discourage pests, and supports natural dust bathing. For interior bedding and coop surfaces, we use Grubbly Farms Coop Conditioner so each area is cared for appropriately.
Cupola with Weathervane
A rooftop cupola lantern finished with a copper biplane weathervane from Good Directions adds character and a sense of play. A small detail that lifts the design and reflects a shared love for travel and discovery.
Every brushstroke, board, and finish was chosen with the hens in mind. A small sanctuary designed for comfort, care, and happy hens, where thoughtful design supports daily life.

This project was shaped by a belief that details matter. When care is given to every decision, even the most ordinary structures can feel complete and full of life.
The goal was never perfection. It was to create a space with depth, texture, and meaning. One that feels alive, crafted with care, and built to last through daily use.
